The Babies Are Coming!

Greetings Everyone!

As you may or may not know, we at Metropawlitan Dog and The Collared Scholar participate heavily in dog rescue and rehabilitation. You may have caught a few of our posts about recent rescues like Rupert, Shadow and Lilly :)

Well, recently, we found out we have a new addition (or two!) coming to our tiny rescue!

Katie Earle, one of Metropawlitan's Managers and Trainer Extraordinare, has a passion for deaf dogs and is the founder of San Diego Deaf Dog Rescue. She was recently approached by a group trying to save two deaf baby Ibizan Hound Puppies. These babies are only 8 weeks old and were at risk of euthanasia as the breeder didn't know what to do with them. We stepped in.

When Katie told me about the babies, I was ecstatic - Ibizan Hounds are one of my FAVORITE breeds of all time. If you don't know what they are, picture a greyhound with Giant German Shepherd size ears that stand straight up! They are stunning dogs of the sight hound group.

Anyhow, the babies will be arriving this week so keep an eye out for them. They will be staying with Katie and I and accompanying us to the Met regularly until they are old enough to be left alone. The pups will receive some training, be spayed and neutered and vaccinated and then will be ready for their new homes (if Katie and I don't decide to keep them before then!).

If you are interested in adopting one of the babies or would like to learn more about our other wonderful rescued dogs, feel free to call us at 619-233-1364!

Gorgeous Shadow Needs a Home!

It seems like these days, our rescue has been inundated with dogs needing homes...

If you have been into the Met lately, you have seen Shadow's picture. Shadow is a stunning, purebred blue nose pit bull who comes from excellent lines. Shadow is currently being fostered by her original owners but will be entering our rescue on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Her owners are relinquishing her because, over the past year or two, their male pit bull has attacked her...on multiple occaisions. The owners spent thousands of dollars training with a well known LA dog trainer with no avail. So, they decided it wasn't fair to hang onto Shadow anymore. They decided to find her a new home where she didn't have to live every day in fear of being attacked.

Shadow is one of the most perfect dogs we have ever had come through our rescue. Despite all of her trauma, she is great with other dogs. She is completely obedience trained and housetrained and she loves people of all ages. She loves to lounge on the couch or accompany you on a long walk or hike. Her only requirement is that she has a human companion to love.

If you or someone you know is looking for a new companion, please call us at 619-233-1005.

Help Us Save Rupert!

As you may or may not know, we at The Collared Scholar run a rescue and rehabilitation program to help save dogs in need. Recently we took in a dog named Rupert. Rupert is a Basset Hound puppy who was in terrible shape when he entered our program. He was lame in his back leg, had internal parasites and he wouldn't eat. We tried coaxing him with all sorts of goodies for days but by the end of the 5th day, Rupert was skinny and needed medical treatment.

Rupert was immediately hospitalized and placed on IV antibiotics, pain medication for his leg and IV fluids. The next day, we received bad news. Rupert still wasn't eating and had gone lame in a second leg. The vets suspected an infection of the blood that had settled into his joints and caused high fever and lameness.

With the help and care of the loving vet staff at Rancho San Carlos Vet Clinic, Rupert made a full recovery. However, his care and treatment cost our tiny rescue a fortune.

We at The Collared Scholar believe you can't put a price tag on life, so we made a down payment on the bill and are now accepting donations to help cover our costs. To date, we have raised $200. Ruperts bill was $1200 and he still requires a dental cleaning and tooth extraction as several of his rear molars are seriously infected. If you can help, please call us at 619-233-1005. Thanks in advance for your generosity!
