FAQ
Q: How old should my dog be for group classes?

A: Dogs must be at least four months of age for beginning obedience classes and must be current on all vaccinations. Dogs under four months of age are welcome to enroll in our puppy socialization class.

Q. What equipment will I need for training?

A: For basic obedience, you will need to purchase a multi-function lead, a martingale style nylon combo collar, and a long lead (not retractable) at least 20ft in length. You should also bring doggy pickup bags and water for your pooch. Advanced classes may require additional equipment. All necessary equipment can be purchased through The Collared Scholar.

Q. My dog knows basic commands and has been through group classes with another trainer - can we enroll in Advanced Obedience?

A. We will evaluate dogs on a case by case basis. If your prior training is based on the methods that we teach, and we feel your dog is at a level consistent with our Advanced classe, enrollment may be possible.

Q: Do you use treats in your training?

A: We use treats in our puppy and basic classes. In advanced obedience, we do not use treats in our training except as a distraction.

Q. Can my family come to the class?

A: We encourage your family to participate in the training process and we welcome them at our group class. However, all members of the family must observe from outside of the class.

Q. Where are your classes held?

A. Our classes are held all over San Diego. Currently, we offer classes Most in the La Mesa area, the East Village/Downtown area and in Oceanside. Occaisionally, we do offer other classes at different locations around town. Please contact us for information on class location and times.

"I went to Meagan in need of advice on my dog that had a very agressive behavior towards me. By someone else, I was told to put her too sleep, that nothing could be done. A consultation with Meagan made me hopefull and we began training. Meagan, explained in detail everything that I needed to know. Meagan is kind, patient and cares about you and your animal. The compassion is overwheling. Today, my dog is alive and well mannered. A miracle worker I call her!!!

We drove all the way from Los Angeles to have Megan and her team train our two dogs in the in house two week training program. One of our dogs had a fear aggression and both needed training. Not only did Megan do a excellent job with both our dogs, she taught us alot as well about changing our behavior. ( We needed training to) Megan has a natural ability with dogs. She is truly amazing!!
